Diamonds that embellish a piece of jewelry can have different cuts: oval, princess, marquise, pear, pear, emerald, radiant, asscher, cushion, round.
The most popular, however, is the round cut diamond, which accounts for about 75% of all gems sold.

As the question "
why are round cut diamonds more expensive than round cut diamonds?" is increasingly being asked, Kara Diamond is here to give you a clear, honest answer and we will review the key points that determine this phenomenon .

Due to the mechanism of its cut, the round shape of diamonds is generally superior to other shapes and more expensive respectively. A typical round diamond (e.g. 1.00 carat, F color, VS2 clarity) can cost 25-35% more than a diamond of any other shape.
There are two main reasons for this:

Demand for round diamond jewelry is very high and supply is relatively low;

By losing a large amount of rough stone when cutting, the cost of each carat of diamond is higher.

A brief history

The popularity of round diamonds gained momentum in 1919 with the publication of
Marcel Tolkowsky 's thesis entitled "Diamond Design " in which he presented a study of the reflection and refraction of light in diamonds. Tolkowsky described the ideal proportions of a round-cut diamond to maximize the return (or brilliance) of light and its dispersion. Tolkowsky's original specifications were modified over time as the mechanisms and methods of cutting diamonds were refined. These theoretical advances, as well as technological advances (such as the use of lasers to cut gemstones), have been adopted by diamond manufacturers to produce the perfect round cut and incredibly brilliant.

Assessing the color of round-cut diamonds with the naked eye is subjective. Sometimes, some customers prefer the warmer diamond colors, G-H, to diamonds that are D or F. In fact, most of the premium price associated with round-cut diamonds at the higher end of the color scale is determined by supply and demand, and customers who want D-F color grades for diamonds and are willing to invest a large amount of money to obtain them are aware that only experts can offer gems at these characteristics. Whatever the customer's preferences, the real color differences in diamonds are hard to perceive with the naked eye.
At Kara Diamond you can get advice from the brand's expert, Mr. Huseyin Karabacak, to find out the exact color and value of the diamond.
For example, in an oval cut diamond that has a J color, small inclusions may be visible, while a round diamond that has a J color will have a brilliant appearance with no inclusions visible to the naked eye. This is due to the brilliance of round diamonds and the fact that imperfections are ideally hidden.

The table below serves as a general guideline for evaluating the cut of a round cut diamond, these factors are endorsed by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America).

Extremely white White Almost white Few traces of white Slight traces of color
.50 ct D-G H-I J-K L-M >M
.51-1.00 ct D-G H-I J-K L-M >M
1.00-2.00 ct D-F G-H I-J K-L >L
>2.00 ct D-F G H I-J >J

As with color, GIA provides an excellent aid in determining the clarity of round-cut diamonds by classifying in a table the general evaluation characteristics according to the carat of the diamond .
